VOORHEES, N.J. (October 3, 2023) -- AAA South Jersey associates delivered in a big way for our neighbors facing food insecurity. Throughout September, AAA South Jersey held a food drive, in conjunction with the Food Bank of South Jersey. In total, AAASJ collected well over 1,000 food items and reusable bags that will go directly to helping our neighbors in need.
The collected food and reusable bags were donated to the Hope Church, an agency partner of the Food Bank of South Jersey.
"We had a tremendous turnout for our food drive at AAA South Jersey. Our associates look forward to volunteering at an upcoming food distribution event at Hope Church to see our donations reach those who need them," AAA South Jersey spokesperson Matt Bowker said.
As a fun way to encourage donations, AAA South Jersey associates participated in a CAN-gineering competition. Employees formed teams, collected food items, and then built a creative design out of their cans and boxes.

Associates then voted for their favorite design. With more than 50% of the vote, the Voorhees branch insurance team's design (pictured above) was selected as the winner of the inaugural contest.

September marked Hunger Action Month, an annual campaign to raise awareness of hunger and food insecurity in America. In AAA South Jersey's footprint, more than 125,000 residents experience food insecurity. More than 27,000 of those are children. That's 1 in 11 children in our region.
In 2022 alone, the Food Bank of South Jersey distributed more than 15 million meals in its four-county service area.
