A Maine Experience from a Travel Advisor

Our AAA Travel Advisor of almost 20 years, Carol Symington, accompanied the Maine Summer Vacation motorcoach trip last year and had an incredible time! Below are her favorite highlights from this trip.
Our adventure began in Portland, a vibrant and coastal town known for its maritime history and natural beauty. The day was spent exploring lighthouses and rocky coasts. A highlight was walking out onto the jetty at Spring Point Lighthouse, where climbing to the top of the lighthouse rewarded us with some pretty amazing views. After an incredible morning by the water, we enjoyed a nice lunch in Portland and then headed to Bangor.
Even on a cloudy day, Bar Harbor was still a charming coastal town in New England with a lot of shops and inviting restaurants. Of course, no visit to Maine is complete without indulging in a delicious lunch with a fresh lobster roll and rich lobster bisque! Later in the day, we set off to Acadia National Park for a guided tour. We got to see many islands, as Maine is a state with thousands of them. Wrapping up the day, we enjoyed a peaceful dinner in a beautiful spot along the water.
We then journeyed to Kennebunk and Kennebunkport, two coastal towns with beautiful homes, landscapes, beaches, and yachts. No matter where you looked, it was truly stunning! We even got to catch a glimpse of Walker’s Point Estate, which is the summer home of the Bush family, and according to the flags, they were in attendance! A stroll through town led us to lunch aboard a sailboat at the Pilot House, which was a really unique dining experience.
Next, we took a three-mile train ride along the heritage railroad on a vintage trolley at the Seashore Trolley Museum. As the day wound down, we reached Ogunquit, where dinner was followed by a stunning evening walk along Marginal Way, one of Maine’s most scenic coastal paths.
The beauty of this state was so incredible, it is no wonder that many people have made this their summer retreat! From exploring the stunning coastline to indulging in the freshest seafood, this was truly a memorable trip.
