SWEDESBORO, N.J. – During my interview with Sweetsboro Pastry Shoppe owner Karen Morrison, a customer chimed in.
“It is fabulous. I love your place. I buy all of my kids’ cakes here. You do a great job,” she said.

The bakery was opened in 2007 by Morrison and her stepbrother, Jack, who comes from a long line of bakers. Visit the shoppe and you’ll find walled photos of Jack’s grandfather, father, and uncles in bakeries – his parents owned a bakery in the Wissinoming section of Northeast Philadelphia.
“My stepbrother is a third-generation baker. Honestly, I did not intend to open a bakery. This opportunity became available, so I approached him about it. He had just gotten out of his business up in Medford. He responded, ‘let's do it together,’ so here I am,” Morrison recalls.
It’s those old-fashioned recipes and decades of experience that Morrison says sets Sweetsboro apart.
“[Bakeries] that open now are geared towards specialty items, where we're an old-fashioned bakery with a larger variety,” she said.
