AAA South Jersey: What are your favorite travel memories from the Time to Go Swiss trip?
Tracy Grier-Cossaboon: one of my favorite experiences was getting to the top of Parsenn-Weissfluhgipfel. The little village of Davos is surrounded by ski mountains. And when you take our tour, you receive a Davos Card—which is good for all the transportation in and around Davos: the public bus system, the funiculars and cable cars to the tops of the mountains that surround you, or the railway. To get to the top of Parsenn, you have to take two funiculars and a cable car to get to the top of the mountain. Once we got to the top, it was a beautiful, clear day (which from what I was told doesn’t happen often); I had a clear 360-degree view and we could see the Matterhorn way off in the distance

Another thing I did was walk the Alps back to the hotel from the Sertig Valley. We take the bus to the Sertig Valley and there is this adorable restaurant where you can get a bite to eat. Then we walk about a mile to this stunning waterfall, past the little babbling brook, in the countryside. When we got back to the restaurant, we had the option to either take one of the public buses back to the hotel or walk the path through the mountains. [We were told,] quote: it’s about a seven-mile walk and should take about two-and-a-half hours.’

So, my husband and I decided to walk along with a few others. First, I was so glad I did because now I am able to say I walked through part of the Alps! Second, it wasn’t seven miles—I clocked it at 11 miles and four hours—but it was so worth it!

AAA: In what ways can the itinerary options appeal to any traveler?
T.G.: We include something every day, even on the free days. If you don’t feel up to what is included that day, the hotel sits in the little town of Davos and has lovely shops and restaurants that are easy to get to from the hotel, so you can stay back (but why would you!). You can take the cable cars or trams or funiculars to the top of Jakobshorn, or Shatzalp, or Parsenn, and others located right in Davos.

AAA: What are the top things every traveler should know about going to Switzerland on a AAA South Jersey Exclusive Vacation?
T.G.: Switzerland is a stunningly beautiful country; you don’t understand the beauty of it until you see it in person. When you first see the Alps, you are in AWE. The fact that our tour stays in one place for the whole week is great; no packing and unpacking to travel from hotel to hotel.

The days are a bit long, but you see and experience so much. It’s a diverse tour, going from the Sertig Valley with a hike to a beautiful waterfall, to Lucerne and seeing the Chapel Bridge and Lion Monument, to taking a spectacular train ride on the Bernina Express, to cheese making, to a mountaintop brewery!

AAA: How does AAA help travelers make this experience the best possible while also providing peace of mind?
T.G.: The traveler has a AAA South Jersey Escort with them the entire trip from start to finish. Once we get into Switzerland, we meet our local guide and expert. The AAA Escort is there to ensure everything is running smoothly and take care of any issues that may come about. Our expert guide is there for the tour experience, full of a wealth of information about the country and each city and excursion visited.
